320 Miles of Urban Commuting
The Aventon Level 3 is the first commuter e-bike where we stopped worrying about theft. Not because we got careless, but because the bike's ACU (Aventon Control Unit) includes GPS tracking, an integrated rear wheel lock, motion detection, and a siren alarm. Lock it up, walk away, and your phone tells you if someone touches it. If they somehow take it, you can track its location and remotely disable the motor.
After three weeks and 320 miles of daily commuting, the security system is what sets this bike apart. But the ride quality earns its own respect.
The Ride
Torque sensor pedal assist is smooth and responsive across five levels. In PAS 3, the bike maintained 15-18 mph up a 1.2-mile climb averaging 7% grade without excessive effort. That's a legitimate hill, and the Level 3 handled it without drama.
Real-world range testing: 38 miles with 1,900 feet of total elevation gain on a single charge. That's a solid day of mixed urban commuting including hills. Flat-terrain commuters will see 45-50 miles easily.
The bike weighs 67 pounds. That's heavy, but the 300-pound total weight limit and 60-pound rear rack capacity mean it handles loads well. Laptop bag, grocery bags, and a lock didn't faze it.
Components
Hydraulic disc brakes provide confident stopping. The integrated front and rear lights are bright enough for dusk riding but won't replace a dedicated headlight for dark roads -- that's the Level 3's one real weakness. The same compact LED headlight Aventon has used for years is disappointing at this price point.
The Aventon app connects via Bluetooth for ride tracking, firmware updates, and security management. The app works reliably, which puts it ahead of most e-bike companion apps we've used.
Who It's For
Urban commuters who park their bike outside, even briefly. The security features alone justify the Level 3 over less-equipped competitors. If you've ever locked up a bike and spent the whole meal checking on it through the window, this bike was built for you.
At $1,999, it's positioned against the Lectric ONE and Rad Power Radster Road. The Level 3 wins on security and polish. The Lectric wins on pure value. Our best commuter e-bikes of 2026 guide has the full comparison.
